Peanut butter is basically a food paste which goes well with bread and dry roti. It is made with ground, dry-roasted peanuts. Ingredients like salt, sweeteners, or emulsifiers are used to modify the taste of peanut butter. It has several vitamins, nutrients, dietary minerals and proteins. Basically the mesoamerican group of people called Aztecs and the Pre-Columbian American group of people known as the Inca Empire started using peanut butter as a food item and also invented the recipe of peanut butter. In the year 1783, there was a dish named “pinda-käse”. Which means peanut cheese. That dish was more solid than today’s peanut butter.In the year 1898 an advocate named John Harvey Kellogg was selected as the incharge of “Process of Producing Alimentary Products”. Instead of roasting the peanuts , he started boiling them. Western Health Reform Institute of Kellogg started serving peanut butter to patients because they needed a food which had a lot of protein in it. As they were being served to the patient so it was also required to serve the food which can be eaten without chewing. Then it became famous with time because of its flavours and texture and eventually became the food of the rich. Joseph Lambert, who used to work at John Harvey Kellogg’s Battle Creek Sanitarium invented the peanut butter making machine in the early time then Dr. Ambrose Straub updated the machine and gave it a new benchmark in 1903. When American started promoting “Meatless Days” then peanut butter became more and more popular in dining tables of Americans. The process for making smooth peanut butter was invented by chemist Joseph Rosefield in 1922. Using partially hydrogenated oil, he invented the way of separating oil from peanut butter. That gave a smooth texture to peanut butter. Later in 1928 Joseph Rosefield licensed a company and started making peanut butter with the name :Peter Pan Peanut Butter”.
There is another flavour of peanut butter known as Artisan Peanut Butter but it is not that demandable and the market demand of this flavor is very small.
How long does peanut butter last?
A new study on peanut butter claims to have found a way to extend the shelf life of peanut butter by up to 10 months. This study used the common ingredient of peanuts, but instead of using them as the main ingredient, they instead subjected peanut butter to a process of irradiation. This process is also known as the Gamma Irradiation Process(GIP). This process is commonly used in the food industries to kill bacteria to mold all kinds of foods with hygiene. The study used an irradiation process called “Neutron Beam Irradiation” (NBI) which is a type of gamma irradiation. This process increases the shelf life of the product by killing the bacteria that causes spoilage.While most of us are familiar with peanut butter as a lunchbox staple, few realize that this tasty, sandwich spread is also a common ingredient in many other foods. Peanut butter is used in the preparation of sandwiches, puddings, and desserts. It can also be used as a dip for fruits and vegetables, or as a spread on bread. Peanut butter is commonly used in making cookies, which is how the spread has earned its reputation as a “cookie butter.” Expired peanut butter can make you sick so it is better to finish it before the expiry time. On the other hand it is better to keep peanut butter in a cool place after opening otherwise it will get worse in very less time.
